Facebook Is Changing The Name Of Instagram

As one of the most recognisable social media apps on offer today, the idea of Instagram changing its name is unthinkable to many people. However, as became clear just recently through Twitter, the social media application owned by Facebook will now be known as “Instagram from Facebook”. This is not a single case of re-branding however, WhatsApp, which is also owned by Facebook, will also have it’s name changed to reflect the new branding philosophy currently taking hold over at the social media giant’s headquarters.

The CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has held the vision of incorporating Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook into a single platform, to ensure greater centralisation of control. This has huge implications for the world of social media, as more than 2.6 billion people will converge on this one application. In addition, it has been purported that Facebook aims to ensure that the apps on this platform will allow for cross-communication between themselves.

As can be expected, not everyone in the community is happy about this change, as the original creators of Instagram have stated that the new name shows that Instagram has lost its independence. As of yet, there has been no official statement from Facebook or Instagram confirming this story.
